Outcome

Our team developed a professional learning opportunity for teachers to learn, review and refresh knowledge and application of effective classroom practices to improve student engagement in learning.

The course was designed as professional learning for all teachers in twilights, staff meetings or on pupil free days, facilitated by school leaders.

The course is based on evidence based classroom support practices with specific skills, reflective exercises and goal setting.

To enhance the learner's engagement, the course included scenario based videos with teacher and student actors, as well as online formative assessment with the opportunity to collaborate with their manager, mentor or experienced colleague.

Benefits:

A great reach: 3525 participants had completed the online course in the first four months. This is far and away more than the number of participants in the face to face training.

A focus of learning: with the learning material distilled and synthesised to create the most engaging and effective material for the online learner.

Economy of time: for the subject matter experts who previously conducted the face-to-face training; as well as for teachers who were able to participate in the training at their schools.

High ROI: with a cost per learner more cost-effective than face-to-face learning.

Enhanced student learning: with the program rolled out to a greater number of schools.

Learner feedback

"Congratulations on the wonderful resource that you have developed in the PB4L – Effective classroom practices and responses. I completed the 3 modules online and really enjoyed the engagement with the material. I like the balance of videos/interactives and visuals. The audio overlay was excellent for me as a learner also. Take a bow…" Tracey Williamson, Assistant Principal, Chisholm Catholic College

"Just completed the first course. Have to say it is certainly one of the most well-presented and consistent of any BCE online course I have undertaken in the past 7 years. Great job."  Paul Neilsen, Fratelli Group Teacher, Sophia College
